Zur Messung wird der totale durch den Energieverbrauch bedingte CO2-Ausstoß eines RZ durch den Energieverbrauch ausschließlich der IT dividiert. Der ideale CUE hat den Wert 0, da dann kein Kohlendioxid emittiert wird.

To calculate the value, the total CO2 production of a data center resulting from its energy use is divided by the total energy use only of the IT equipment. The ideal value of CUE is zero, as this represents no CO2 output.
